Your Dying Spouse 576 - The Hard Season

Looking in a mirror sucks, because now I can see several tumours on my chest. I mean...that's NOT a beach bod. (Though it IS a six-pack. Kinda.)

But it's mine, and I have to deal with it.

I don't know why this is happening, and to be honest, I don't care. It's happening, period, suck it up, deal with it...and shut the f*** up!

I just trust that there is a reason
for this hard and bitter season.
Though all around, they see me fail,
I'm not done, and will prevail.

And here's a sonnet.

When the walls are closing in
and you find you're not enough
to even know how to begin
to prove you're not a bluff,
know each tulip garden
must have its ugly season,
when the earth must harden
for a vital reason.
The bulbs need the killing frost
to set themselves alight;
beauty hidden, but not lost
through long winter's night.
Despair is brutal, but its scope
can be the cold midwife to hope.

As for music, here are the Grass Roots, with Temptation Eyes. Why not?

Thanks to Carol Ashby, Blessed Are The Pure Of Heart is back on Kindle, and will be available in paperback soon.

Friends are everything. I couldn't have done it.

Marley, the canine waif from Afghanistan, whom WE helped save, has a Facebook page! Please drop by to see how happy he is today.

Below are my recent releases on Kindle -please excuse their presence in the body of the blog. I haven't the energy to get them up as 'buttons' in the sidebar. You can click on the covers to go to the Amazon links.

  2. Andrew, this was beautiful. Not the stuff about the tumours, but about the tulips. I love the perspective you convey!

Despair can, indeed be brutal. But to picture it as the midwife to hope? WOWOWOW. LOVED that. Thanks for sharing this, friend.

    1. I'm so glad you enjoyed this...I've always loved tulips, and they seem to me a banner of hope, in their dormancy followed by the glorious bloom.

Thank you so much for being here!

  3. Beautiful poetry, but your positive attitude in spite of the pain is even more beautiful.

    1. Jan, thank you so much. I'm in a dark fog of pain, but I know, warmth in my bones, that somewhere the Son is shining.

  5. Oh Andrew... There is a purpose. You've been so transparent and I KNOW that is touching the lives of so many. Your courage to simply be honest, is so powerful. Continued prayers...

  6. You don't have to shut the f*** up. We are here to listen to you. We want to listen to you, every side of you, the pain, the tumours, the wit, the bravery, the strength and the will. You're an inspiration Andrew. Sending you prayer and love to you, Barb and the animals.
