The Good Loser

I am a sore loser. Bet that was a surprise, yeah?

I won't beat cancer in the long haul, but I can win ugly every day 'till then, by accomplishing most of my goals (say, writing sonnets as blog comments) even if I am on my knees at nightfall.

Even if my skivvies are soiled, and there's blood on the floor.

Anything for the win.

Show me a good loser,
and a loser's all I see,
a goody-two-shoes poser,
and that is not for me.
You've got to fight the good fight,
and if you fail, just smile
Then go out in the dead of night,
catch a small crocodile.
Drag it, snarling, back to camp
and set it in the winner's bath,
drain the oil from washroom lamp
and prepare to laugh
as you hear a scream and splash
before nude hundred-metre dash.

Here's a fitting clip from Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade.

The Five Minute Friday prompt this week is FAST. I'll be quick

Skittering across the floor,
pirate-shouts, Avast!
Chihuahuas racing out the door;
short legs, but they move fast,
barking others from their way
as they madly race
to see what on this brand-new day
they are going to face
with hearts aflame and eyes afire;
a monster, maybe or a dragon?
Whatever, dude, it will retire
from Chichi's onslaught, tails a-waggin'!
Behold, there! Under grim duress,
it's the man from UPS!

Four minutes, under Chihuahua supervision.

Sylvia says that victory is ice cream. Can't argue with that.

  1. Under grim duress...the man from UPS! I love it!

    1. Liz, I am so glad that you enjoyed this!

  2. As always, I love your witty poetry. Prayers for you, friend!

    1. Lauren, I'm delighted that you liked this, and so grateful for your prayers!

  3. We appreciate your sonnets as blog comments, Andrew. Praying for you.

    1. Lisa, thanks... I do enjoy composing the poetic comments, and always post them with a gentle prayer

And speaking of prayers, I am grateful for yours.

  4. I needed a laugh this morning. Thanks!

    1. Barb, delighted that I could help start your day with humour!

  5. Andrew, your humorous poetry always brings a laugh and a smile! You are a blessing!

    1. Joanne, thank you for this. You're a blessing in my life as well.

  6. that is SO chihuahua... just completely. FMF15

  7. (((((Andrew)))))

    Annie in Texas

  8. Thanks for the laugh. Our dog has learned to sit on the end of the driveway where the UPS driver tosses treats to Gertie. My wife saw a lady driver throwing kisses to Gertie so.

  9. Always enjoy your witty rhymes and observations - and your perseverance!

    1. Kym, thank you so much... the key to my perseverance is sense of community I find here.

It's a huge part o what keeps me going. Like, alive.

  10. Chihuahua's are fast! Praying for you.

    1. Cindy, the Chichi's sure are quick. A few days ago they went for an off-property excursion. They got a long way in a short time, and THAT won't happen again.

Thanks so much for your prayers!

  11. Andrew, your sonnets made me smile big. I love that you have the chihuahuas to make you smile and help you write good sonnets. ;) Praying for you and Barb, my friend.

    1. Jeanne, the
Chihuahuas are hard taskmasters. It's impossible not to write of them.

Truly, they've really brought something to this place, a sense of joie de vivre that has improved our lives, the lives of the dogs, and perhaps even that of the cat.

We so value your prayers, and your friendship!
