I'm Always Chasing Rainbows

Rainbows are one of the things that make life worth living. I should say it's because they're the symbol of God's promise to Noah, but when I see one, I have to be honest, I don't think about that.

They're just pretty. And pretty can overcome the bummer cancer can be.

As, yeah, so does Barb, who took the picture.

Pain's the gift that keeps on giving,
reminder with a flaming touch
that it's rainbows keep me living
even when it hurts too much
to live as normal people do,
go to Starbucks, take a walk,
watch a movie full way through
or, even, sit down and talk
about the small gay things in life,
like when the pool guy, tan and hearty,
ran away with neighbour's wife,
and neighbour's days are now a party
to which I have not been invited,
but I hurt so much, I don't feel slighted.

The Five Minute Friday prompt this week is SPONTANEOUS. I shall now sonnetize spontaneously.

Spontaneity of rainbows,
and of shooting stars,
sudden touch of dog's cold nose,
no-warning fights in bars.
Alarums sound without a clue,
ceasefire comes without a hint,
bills immediately come due
when I'm really truly skint.
I wonder if God queers these pitches
to keep us diligent and fit
according to His inner wishes,
or is it needed that He's lit
a flame beneath lazy backsides
that we may stay alert and wise?

Four minutes! YESSSS! (As the reader cries, NOOOO!)
For a Rainbow Connexion, over, now, to Kermit the Frog.

Sylvia prefers plain vanilla to rainbow sherbet. Strange dog.

    1. Corinne, I'm so honoured. You've so brightened my day with these gracious words of affirmation!

By the bye, for some reason I could not find a way to leave a comment on your blog today.

  2. Rainbows are but splashes of colors in the sky,
but their great passion from the Lord makes me say "me Oh My!"
They glint between the clouds just so,
they make me want to stay not go.
The promise of the Lord that He will care for us,
Is painted in the sky for the walker, car, or bus.
I've seen my share of rainbows dashed amidst the rain,
I wonder why they symbolize the comfort after pain.
I know God makes them at just the right time.
I pray you like this poem and appreciate the rhyme!
    Happy Friday friend!

    1. Jenn, thank you so much! This is lovely, so hauntingly beautiful... it's going to be printed, framed, and hung up where it's in constant view, constant heart.

  3. Andrew, whether you write here or in a comment, your words are always spontaneous. This is what makes both the words, and you, a blessing! Like you, I love rainbows and often, do not think of Noah when I see one. My thoughts turn to the beauty and the promise God is with me! He's with you too, friend, every single moment!

    1. Joanne, thank you for this. Rainbows...like the one that will appear in my next post... sometimes have a beauty for me that's almost uncanny, a glimpse into God's workshop.

  4. Once my mom drove through a rainbow. She described it as pure golden light. I kind of doubted her! Then one day, as I recounted her story to my husband, we too drove through a rainbow...it was magnificent. That's my spontaneous rainbow tale for today. ;-)

  6. I'd heard one in a song
and read one on a page,
    I've reflected on the meaning
    And thought about the message;

    I've never seen a rainbow
    the colours shining bright,
But I hope I will in heaven
When God blesses me with sight.

Thank you for your post, I enjoyed it. It's lovely how God blesses us with surprises that lift our hearts and make our days brighter. god bless you.

  7. I think everyone loves rainbows - they are just so magical and we all associate them with hope and promise, even if we don't think about God's promise to Noah. Praying your day is full of bright spontaneous hope!

    1. Kym, magical is indeed the most fitting word for rainbows.

I do live in hope, and it's so often fulfilled by God's spontaneity!

  8. Andrew, your writing is the definition of spontaneous! I don’t know how you do it, well, I do. You have a gift from God for being able to write poetry off the top of your head about anything! It’s amazing!

    1. Cindy, thank you! I never tried writing poetry until the end of 2018; I did a few blog comments in verse, as a change of pace, and found it fun. The 'sonnet word count' is somewhere past War And Peace now. Kind of crazy.

  9. Andrew, you made me laugh out loud. Both sonnets were great, and yes, the second one definitely felt spontaneous. But truth is, I couldn't write a sonnet spontaneously in four minutes. So, dude, I'm most impressed. :)

    1. Jeanne, first, I'm so glad you enjoyed these...and I really don't know why writing this stuff comes fairly easily. I do have some musical ability (not singing!), and I believe that plays a role.

    1. Cindy, we love them too; my mother-in-law told me that when I was feeling low, God would send a rainbow for me to love.

      And He does.

  12. In my case its often the flame beneath this lazy backside. Ouch, that hurt! Thank you! I love rainbows. They're pretty!
