We all have our sins (what's yours?). Mine is pride; I count myself hard enough to beat back the flames of cancer without help, and to thereby walk into Heaven at the end, and look God in the eye.

"I need a beer, God. You're buying."

I've never identified with the Prodigal Son, that self-indulgent wimp who got taken by his 'friends', and ended up sleeping with the hogs.

No, I took after the his brother, the dude who held the line and got nothing for his efforts.

Yes, I am an idiot.

None of us stand on our own two feet. We stand at God's grace, and we fall at our own sin.

The price of that sin is something we can't escape; we can only be rescued.

And to cut off, through, pride, the avenue of salvation is just streets past stupid.

Why should I go on and try,

why should I even bother?

Maybe it is time to die

and go home to the Father.

I suppose that it's expected

to have this kind of feeling,

but it's summarily rejected

for that is not my dealing.

I shall not go in dusty rags,

as one who's cut and quit,

one who's simply dropped his bags;

I'll show up proud, and fit,

for struggle is no obstacle

to the brother of the Prodigal.
