There is no-one to whom I owe
my laughter and good cheer.
Disagree? Well, you don't know,
mate, 'cause you are not here
to see the epic sufferings,
melodramatic pain
that this kind of cancer brings
when you're circling the drain.
Except maybe I got this wrong,
and made it all 'bout me,
when in truth I just belong
to larger community
that I see, in yonder looking-glass,
has strong call upon my...uh, donkey.
The Five Minute Friday prompt this week is STORY.
It is the story of my life,
I just cannot get a break
(eye-roll by The Barb, my wife),
but surely God's made some mistake
that looking like Asian Brad Pitt,
and with the grace of Jackie Chan,
I just cannot seem to fit
into Hollywood's big master plan,
that I could become rich like Croesus,
living in Aspen, or Bel Aire,
with entire island-leases
to take perhaps a Christmas there
with daiquiri in my hand
enjoying sun and surf and sand.
That was quick. Under three and a half minutes.
Cute video -- and beautiful photos of the sky. You've posted so many, and they're all awesome. Is that the view from where you live? Does Barb take the pictures? If so, she does an amazing job of capturing them. I've been wondering for a while.
ReplyDeleteGrams, these views are from where we live, usually from the front porch. Barb taught me how to 'see' so I can take them. Blogger requires that the picture used be taken 'within' the app; photos can no longer be imported.
DeleteI'm really glad you like the video. I don't subscribe to much, but Winnie's channel was a no-brainer.
I love that skyline. I lived in same state as you and Barb for a decade before moving back home to Florida, and I agree with my kids that watching the sunset behind the mountains is a beautiful sight.Thank you for sharing the poetry. I can almost picture Barb's roll of the eyes. I am praying for you both. -Jolene
ReplyDeleteJolene, thank you for this. I so love the skyline!
DeleteGorgeous photos and epic poetry as always! You're such an inspiration. Just popped by from #9
ReplyDeleteHeather, I am humbled by, and grateful for, your words.
DeleteWhat a beautiful view of the mountains, Andrew! May you and Barb have a grace-filled weekend!
ReplyDeleteLisa, thank you so much. God is here, and all is grace, even as the body fails.
DeleteLoved the video! I am sorry for your suffering. Each one of us is suffering in one way or another, physically or emotionally. God loves you. Give your hurts to Jesus. Have you ever repented of your sins and believed In Jesus? If you are born again you will have a heavenly home more beautiful than any place on earth.

Terri, I am so glad you enjoyed the video. I am indeed born again. I fear for what may come in this life, but NOT in the final outcome.
DeleteBeautiful view! Love your witty poetry, as always, but I'm so sorry about the pain. Praying for you and Barb.
ReplyDeleteKym, the pain passes, but the joy remains.
DeleteKind of a stolen paraphrase from Renoir (I think).
You are right, no one knows. Beautiful picture, sweet video. I think I am behind. Maybe not. God alone knows. A break? HAHA! Prayers for you Andrew.
ReplyDeleteMary, you're never behind. Grace keeps you where you need to be, my dear friend.
DeleteHow lovely the view of the mountains. Are they high? Have you ever climbed them and seen your community from up there?
ReplyDeleteDawn, I am so glad you liked the mountain views.
DeleteI'd love to climb them (and in earlier years, I could have), but now my only walking is of the thirteen dogs. I can't even climb a ladder, and have trouble with the two steps from porch to door.
No matter. My heart stands on the peaks.
Beautiful views, Andrew. I'm with Sylvia---ice cream time. :) FMF friend #24, Mitzy Bricker
ReplyDeleteMitzy, yes, ice cream, NOW!
Deletethanks for sharing these blue skies this morning, Andrew. inspirational!
ReplyDeleteLinda, thank you, and know that you always inspire me to be my best, before God.
DeleteOh, Asian Brad Pitt. You know, Asians are given the spotlight recently. I think you'll be fine. :) This is great poetry, btw.
ReplyDeleteLux, I do enjoy the round face and eye-folds...and I don't age. The rest of the world gets older, but I just get better-looking.
DeleteAndrew, I especially love your first poem. The perspective shift can be so hard to make, but when we take our eyes off of ourselves and look around, we can find the riches of community. And with that being said, know that this part of your community is praying for you, my friend.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your affirmation, and especially for your prayers!
