Your Dying Spouse 622 - Perfection

Out with the dogs, making sure they don't wander off after doing their morning chores, and often I raise my arms and tilt my head back, looking up into the sky.

Takes some of the pressure of my chest so I can breathe eaier, but yeah, I'm looking for Jesus.

One of these days. There are still a few things to write, though, like, well, this...and this is hard to face...

There is a sad perfection
in this dying, in this loss,
a bright and clear reflection
of the Stations of the Cross.
I face the dreaded sentence
and it is mine to carry,
I cry out in repentance,
and I think of Mary.
She is the Mother of my Saviour,
a woman, not divine,
but in her heart there's favour;
and I do need someone kind.
On the road to my own tomb,
I realise...I need a Mom.

The only fitting music, of course, is the Beatles' Let It Be.

Your Dying Spouse 621 - Hell

I simply do not have the words to describe the past few days. pain beyond description, and despair beyond measure...

...and hope beyond understanding.

I really can't pretend to know
how much more that I can take.
I spin and fall with every blow
and am pierced by a burning stake.
I cling to iron discipline,
that stern Churchillian mien
but hear a soft fell whispering
the survival's but a dream.
I rise to face the storm again
and rising comes the flood
to warn me of the days when
I'll be drowning in my blood.
It's hopeless, yeah, there's no denying,
but somehow, someway, I'm still smiling.

Music from R. Dean Tayor, with Indiana Wants Me..

Your Dying Spouse 620 - All I Have Is Faith

This is getting exhausting; I don't know the whys and wherefores, and sometimes it seems like I'm in some dreadful Flavian Ampitheatre (the Coliseum), playing out a daily gladatorial reprise that can have only one ending.

There are mindbending spasms in the pancreas, worse than anything to which I can compare them, anything I can describe.

Death is coming, and I do not want to die.

Does all this have a purpose? Is there a meaning to something that feels like I am the plaything for demons?

And the answer...YES.

All the health and wealth preaching, all the prosperity gospel ..they don't address the Passion.

And it's the Passion to which we're called. The Passion is the core of our faith.

Once more, into the breach...once more, into the arena...

Once more, to the Cross.

My Cross. The Cross is the burden, the hope, and the promise. (And promise is the Five Minute riday writingprompt this week.)

Come and see your show of shows,
step up, and take a seat.
Come watch a man take vicious blows
from which he can't retreat.
Come now and taste the paradise,
the nectar of the strong
sip it once, and sip it twice
to feel that you belong.
Come and hear the bloody sand
under feet all sandal-shod;
hear, taste and see, and understand
life offered up to God.
Come learn from this, then kneel and pray
that you won't be in that ring one day.

Music from The Seekers, with I'll Never Find ANother You.

Your Dying Spouse 619 - A Birthday Gift For Barbara

Barb's birthday is coming up next month, and I've exhausted the usual array of knives and martial arts devices...so I came up with a real humdinger of an idea.

Or maybe it was a dumb hinger. What do you think?

For Barb I wanted something new,
and which sheer joy would spread
so I will arrange a new tattoo
of an eye upon her forehead.
I think this would be just the thing
to express her Godly diligence
and to her colleagues it would bring
a taste of her soul's grand essence.
But she demurred, I know not why;
do needles cause her fear?
And is that why I have incurred
her boot upon my rear?
But that's OK, I understand
and have another, BETTER plan...

Here's Europe, with The Final Countdown...just because. It's a cool song, one of the best supergroup efforts. Enjoy!

Your Dying Spouse 618 - Happy Mothers' Day!

We all get our own take on Mothers' Day. I've decided to own it.

Today is truly my own day
unlike any other,
for did not they always say
that I am one big ugly mutha?
My biceps are twice the normal size
and my chest needs XXL,
but cage your passion, avert the eyes,
I've got a wife as well.
She tries to keep me in my lane
so I don't get too proud,
but hiding this would be insane
and I proclaim it, LOUD!
And thus, you see my quandary:
"Yes, dear, glad to do the laundry."

Music from the Beach Boys, with Don't Worry Baby.
