Eighty-Eight Words

Down the bloodslick road we tumble

from the midden to the sea;

you say you are set to rumble,

well, me buckos, so are we.

You have axes, long sharp knives,

we have baseball bats and guns,

and not many will survive

for now Satan’s joined the fun.

We will meet you in the township,

we shall crush your thick skull-domes,

but we’ll find, on our return trip

families dead within our homes,

And as we weep amid the gore,

perhaps we should have talked some more.

I do try to answer each comment in a timely fashion, but with Internet providers really stretched, I have only about half of the access I once did. Please bear with me!

Thanks to Carol Ashby, Blessed Are The Pure Of Heart is back on Kindle, and will be available in paperback soon.

Friends are everything. I couldn't have done it.

Below are my recent releases on Kindle -please excuse their presence in the body of the blog. I haven't the energy to get them up as 'buttons' in the sidebar. You can click on the covers to go to the Amazon links.

  1. Yes...perhaps they should have talked more before resorting to violence to sort things out and letting 'Satan join the fun'. Powerful imagery here and wisdom for us

  2. Love the build to the punch line! And so agree that many problems could be solved if people were only willing to talk more...Good to see you on here this week, upholding you in prayer!

    1. Sharon, thank you so much for the prayers...and you hit it dead-center, it's the willingness to talk that counts.

  4. These lyrical words capture what is happening in our world today. So much violence and loss. My sister and her family are attending a funeral today for a young police officer killed in the line of duty leaving behind his wife and two small children. Life is so unfair and scary at times. But yet the church and kind hearted people remain as well.

  8. Love this poem, Andrew! So true! It really comes down to putting down our weapons and listening without an agenda. We would learn so much about each other and find compassion rising up to meet the need. Thanks for this, my friend!
