Your Dying Spouse 614 - For A Friend I've Never Met {FMF}

First and foremost, a wonderful Christian author, Rachel Held Evans, is gravely ill and has been in a medically-induced coma. She and her family need your prayers.

Updates on her condition are being posted on her blog by her husband, Dan.

If you are in a position to offer financial help, her friends have set up a GoFundMe page in her behalf. The cost of something this horrific is crushing, and she and Dan have two very young kids. Anything you can offer will help, and will truly be a love-gift. Everything helps, and lets them know that they are not alone.

If yiu can, please take this opportunity to do just that (and opportunity is the Five Minute Friday writing prompt this week).

I don't know these folks; they have no idea I exist. I just want to help.

I'm still here, still losing ground. However...

...I'm where I am supposed to be; this is my time.

Yeah, it's worse than awful,
and dying would be best,
but suicide's unlawful,
so I will face this test.
I'll fight this to the end of time
and then I'll fight some more.
What the heck, it's on my dime,
and no-one's keeping score.
Cancer is a cartoon villain
but oddly, still a friend
I'll not hesitate in killin'
him, but I'll mourn his end.
In this vicious holy beating,
I have found my life, my meaning.

  1. You may be losing ground physically, Andrew, but it seems to me that spiritually, you're gaining ground all the time, becoming a beacon to show others the way.

  6. I was among those who was not aware of Rachel Held Evans until recently when a friend shared about her being in a medically induced coma and briefly why. I am definitely praying for healing for her and provision and comfort for her family. Such a road.

  7. So touching to lift up Rachel Held Evans. I, too, have never met her or interacted with her, but I do pray the Lord works a miracle in her life.

I found it interesting that you put, "I'm where I am supposed to be; this is my time." So true! If you are believer, then you have to believe God has put us where we are and given us this opportunity to make it mean something.

Thanks so much for your visit to my blog and your poem about Paul. What an interesting concept, that Paul's old life was wearing thin! I think you're right ... indignation grows old, even if you think it is righteous indignation.

I think that God perhaps loaned Rachel to us for a time, as a special gift.

  10. I heard that she died, Andrew. What a tragic ending--dying so young! I'm praying for you too! I know that death would be "best," but I sure hope you hold on for many more days. Praying the pain eases even though I know that's asking for a miracle! Hugs to you!

  12. Oh, Andrew, I think these words are definitely true of you: "In this vicious holy beating, I have found my life, my meaning." If that meaning involves shining a light for Jesus, revealing endurance and perseverance in the face of horrendous pain, being faith-filled and eternally hopeful, maintaining a wry, ironic sense of humour, and inspiring all who read your words and marvel over your superb sonnets. I've heard that Rachel Held Evans has slipped the bonds of earth, leaving devastated family and friends in her wake, and a wonderful legacy in the way she wrote and lived. May God continue to give you grittiness in the face of death and a soul that is radiant with His glory and grace. Blessings, hugs and prayers.
