Your Dying Spouse 599 - DONKEY! {FMF}

OK, I have Barb's permission for this one. Otherwise, I'm a lot sooner a dead man than otherwise.

The other day she found a strand of hair in her bangs that was rather longer than the rest, and asked me to cut it.

She's brave.

Anyway, she stretched it out, I cut it, and when the tension on the hair was thus released, down came her hand on my rather sensitive upper-abdomen, which nearly dropped me to my knees.

"Damn!" she said, mortified. "I feel like such an ass!"

And with my reply, she has thus entered the Shrek pantheon.

No lasting harm was done, and the laugh we got out of the new nickname put paid to her beating herself up over self-perceived 'carelessness'. It's just life; things happen.

Wherever life takes you, you're always being measured for a nickname, and measure is the Five Minute Friday Prompt this week.

And she trusted me to trim her hair!

I really don't like being fragile;
touch me wrong and I might die.
Far better to be strong and agile,
leap the chasm, grab the sky!
But delicate's my lot today
and maybe not all bad
because in weakness comes the way
to depend on Jesus' Dad.
I have to say it breeds compassion
for those far worse off than me
and, after some transcendental fashion
makes me care for an enemy.
As painful as this race has run,
I'd wish it not on anyone.

So let's be Livin' La Vida Loca with Donkey and Puss, from Shrek 2.

Thanks to Carol Ashby, Blessed Are The Pure Of Heart is back on Kindle, and will be available in paperback soon.

Friends are everything. I couldn't have done it.

Marley, the canine waif from Afghanistan, whom WE helped save, has a Facebook page! Please drop by to see how happy he is today.

Below are my recent releases on Kindle -please excuse their presence in the body of the blog. I haven't the energy to get them up as 'buttons' in the sidebar. You can click on the covers to go to the Amazon links.

  1. Yay for trust eh! Despite the consequences...the trust was there and the laughter followed. :)

  5. I love that story! And I won't tell you about the time my mom did something similar -- but taped down my entire bangs straight across before cutting -- the night before 2nd grade pictures were taken. lol

  10. Aww! That's so sweet that she felt that way about hurting you, Andrew! I know you also mad it kind of funny with the Shrek reference. But this is also a rather bitter reality for you both! Dealing with your pain every single day must be so hard. I can't even imagine! Thank you for giving us little snapshots into your life with Barbara! It's sweet and endearing, my friend!

    1. Beth, yes, the reality is bitter, and the only thing to do is to sweeten it with intention.

      As I write this, not easy, but all the more necessary.

      Thank you somuch for being here.
