The Five Minute Friday prompt this week is TURKEY.
Barb was sick today, so instead of hunting down TURKEY quotes, I wrote a sonnet instead. I know, I promised quotes...and no poems.
Also trashed one eye, and it is kinda hard to be reading a screen.
I won't have a turkey cooking,
eating critters don't go here.
Rather for my meal we're looking
at a pizza and some beer,
and somewhere there is a turkey
who will trot all wild and free.
He wasn't shipped to Albuquerque
to make a Pilgrim meal for me.
I am sick of all the killing
that makes this fallen world go 'round,
so I really am quite willing
to eat soybeans by the pound
and maybe to fulfill my goal
to save a little of my soul.
So...have a fun freewrite about the bird, the dinner, the country, or my particular favourite, the Grumm TBF Avenger torpedo bomber...also known as, wait for it...the Turkey.
The video below shows a TBM (General Motors' license-built version) going through engine start, wing unfolding (a little over halfway through the three-minute video) and takeoff).
Sylvia will gladly eat whatever leftover turkey Barb brings home from the church luncheon.

Oh yikes! I will be praying for Barb and that your eye gets better. I like your sonnets and I hope you have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love the poem! I hope Barb is healing. Thank you for the fun prompts you have been giving us.
ReplyDeleteAs always, your poems are thought-provoking. So sorry about your eye. Thank you for hosting Five Minute Friday. It's been a while since I joined in but I'll try to come up with something this week. Blessings to you and Barb!
ReplyDeleteHope Barb is feeling better, and your eye is too.
ReplyDeleteLove your sonnet--and that video of the TBF Avenger. What a cool plane. I had never heard of it, or seen a plane with folding wings before. Forwarded it to my great-grandsons and their dad.
